our history
Alsharq started out as a journalistic and educational project on the social and political realities of the West Asia and North Africa region and their representation in Germany.
Alsharq began transferring their knowledge through live public events as well as via digital formats which allowed people to engage with an international network of activists, journalists and historians - but from home. Building on Alsharq's popular political study tours and educational travel, this digital expertise eventually manifested in immersive virtual study tours.
in recognition of a unique skill for presenting complex and challenging knowledge in engaging digital formats Alsharq Digital was formed as a consultancy that aims to provide socially oriented organisations with quality digital engagement.

our team combines a wide range of expertise
Christoph Dinkelaker has vast experience in conceptualising and conducting digital tours and events. he moderates digital events on a regular basis and trains other organisations and individuals in implementing and moderating events. His regional expertise is the region of West Asia and North Africa where he has worked many years as a travel guide, journalist, political analyst and as head of conflict transformation projects.
Georg Layr is passionate about digital learning and a tech-enthusiast. Originally trained as a political economist, he has worked in blended learning, media pedagogy and (digital) event management for several years. Within Alsharq, Georg is responsible for digital and event activities. He coordinates and implements your projects and takes care of the necessary hardware and software. In his free time, he is on the board of dis:orient e.V. and takes on the occasional teaching or web development gig.
Johanna Pelikan is a tourism industry professional that is focused on digital travel events and sustainable development. She graduated with a degree in Tourism and Event Management at the EBC University in Hamburg, Germany. For Alsharq Johanna supports national and international organisations in creating engaging and interactive online events. Moreover, Johanna works together with tour operators to enhance their performance on virtual tours. Johanna is an energetic and enthusiastic person who enjoys a challenge and learning about new contexts.
Simon Welte-Feddersen loves working in an international and diverse environment. Being passionate about interdisciplinary approaches and highly solution-oriented, he always tries to come up with fresh and innovative ideas. His background is in International Business and International Development, with work experience in Germany, Syria, Lebanon, Myanmar and Vietnam. In his career he has led a number of IT related projects with an international scope and is very eager to bring digital and hybrid events to another level.
Hani Can, who is originally from the Middle East, has a keen interest in politics and public engagement, to which he applies his expertise in communications and digital media. At Alsharq, he is primarily involved in event's technical implemetation and content development, with a strong commitment to finding practical solutions and new approaches.
Mahda Samimifar is an electrical engineer as well as a graphic and web designer. She likes playing around with code, images and digital media to implement her ideas and visions into beautiful designs. She has a passion for photography, design and art. Currently, Mahda is enrolled in a dual study program of “media & design” and works for Alsharq three days a week. Her current location is Berlin, Germany.
Thomas Feichter is an IT professional with extensive experience in IT security, web development and design projects. He holds a Master degree in Computer Science and has 15 years of work experience during which he implemented and managed several hundred IT projects. He has been working in Europe and Asia and managed multi-cultural teams.
Charles Dominic Dass has been working as a web developer for international nonprofits, UN agencies as well as the private sector for about 10 years, where he has leading roles in IT training and as the head of a team of developers.
